Our footprint dates back to the 1920s with Louise’s Garden, a beloved neighborhood anchor that adapted as the nation entered Prohibition. Operating discreetly as a local bootlegging hub and speakeasy, the establishment provided a safe haven where Clevelanders enjoyed spirits away from prying eyes. During the height of Safety Director Eliot Ness’s famous raids across the city, the Santosousso family’s commitment to quality and community kept the doors open. When Prohibition was finally repealed, Johnny’s secured one of the very first official liquor licenses issued in the city of Cleveland.
Four generations of the Santosousso family have preserved this historic soul. Today, behind our modest tavern exterior lies an award-winning fine dining institution celebrated by DiRoNA, Zagat, Wine Spectator, and Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon Awards.
