From Louise’s Garden to Post-Prohibition Speakeasy
The story about Johnny’s Bar is the story of Cleveland itself. Our footprint dates back to the 1920s with Louise’s Garden, a neighborhood anchor that transitioned seamlessly into the post-prohibition era. When the country dried up, the westside adapted—and when prohibition ended, Johnny’s secured one of the very first liquor licenses issued in the city of Cleveland.
Four Generations of the Santosousso Family
Today, the Santosousso family honors a 100-year legacy. Spanning four generations, from great-grandmother Louise’s early founding vision to today, the family has maintained Johnny’s status as a leading fine dining establishment. We’ve preserved the historic soul of the building while injecting a fresh, sophisticated vibe and energy that keeps Johnny’s vibrant for a new generation of diners.
